Apley Castle history: The original Apley Castle was the historical home of the de Charlton family, built circa 14th century, further remodelled in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it was however subsequently badly damaged during the Civil War. In 1791 converted to provide offices and stabling for a new and much greater sized Apley Castle built nearby. This was sadly demolished in the mid-1950s. In 1996 the undertaking of converting the historical Grade II* listed building to create a small number of elegantly private and individual dwellings which stand nearby today.
